Rant o' clock

Naomi is writing this post laying on her bed on a terribly sunny Saturday afternoon, As is typical with the city of Lagos. wondering why there's no power, no breeze, and without a doubt no rest of mind. Deep sigh!

Hello lovelies! I missed showing up here. I've had the craziest past few weeks because the evil people at PHCN decided to show proof that they indeed hold power in this country.

Someone save me from the trenches

This day two years ago COVID-19 forced us all into a lockdown that nobody asked for. Who would've thought our lives would change so drastically, as we went from what we thought was normal to a new reality. Many lives lost, many healed but we've held out strong.

We really didn't see it coming

In the spirit of international women's day I'd like to wish all the incredible, exquisite, and gorgeous women of the Sanya girls blogs, a happy international women's day. We see you, and we love you. As we celebrated another International Women's Day with the theme "Breaking The Bias," which came with a sense of "familiarity"

If you know, you know

The corporate brands in Nigeria decided to have a clownery contest on Social media and Twitter in particular, which turned out to be awash with blunders that they hoped would pass for celebration.

But what did we expect?

It made me think the handlers were sixteen-year-old boys struggling with their first dates or perhaps misogynistic old men feeling bad that once again, the achievements of women were being celebrated? Maybe they should have played it safe like that bank that simply posted “Happy International Women's Day” and gave a thumbs up.

Remember guys, it's a Wo's world

On the bright side, my favorite highlight was when a handler created a Twitter account that revealed the pay gap of women in organizations.

It was targeted at organizations that were celebrating women's day under faux pretense, whilst paying their female employees quarter of what they pay males, talk about hypocrisy . I found it so entertaining and thrilling, it made my belly go giddy throughout the day but that didn't last for long.

Why does Nigeria hate women?

On some not so great news, (but hey, is there any news in this country that's ever great ?)  The outdated bills against women's rights that the house of representatives have been having a "tough time" amending are still in place in Nigeria,

Women of timber and caliber took to the streets to protest this injustice. It goes to show that this country has no intention of evolving and developing with the times.

At 61 years of independence??

A bright spot, however, is that the House of Reps has had a rethink and decided to put the bills backup for consideration. That simply means another voting, though, but we hope they will borrow some sense and do the right thing. I cannot but think that nothing, in particular, has changed for women around the world. Women are still objectified, belittled, molested, harassed and put down.

I hope for a day where these things will no longer exist. I hope there will not be a need for women to protest for basic human rights. I hope that the rape culture and all it stands for would be non-existent, and the existence of women is unproblematic.

To the angels that have lost their lives to the cruelty of the world for simply existing, I pray that you find peace and rest in the afterlife. And may your perpetrators never go unpunished.

But as for me and my homegirls:

For life.
